Leading Edge Protection

Leading edge erosion is a major contributing factor to reduced performance and lifespan of a wind turbine blade. Managing and mitigating leading edge erosion is an ongoing challenge, and our team possesses considerable experience in effectively combating this issue.

Over the years many different products have been developed, which has revolutionised this field. We have experience with most of these from shells and tapes to liquid coatings. Recently, we've collaborated with a robotics company to train our team of technicians in utilizing their blade repair robot for the installation of Leading Edge Protection (LEP). This marks a significant advancement for the industry, and we are thrilled to be at the forefront of this exciting development.

Combining Projects Save time – Reduce Costs

For many of our projects we will combine blade maintenance with routine servicing and other maintenance tasks. This strategic approach allows us to minimise the impact of adverse weather conditions that might impede work specifically on wind turbine blades.

On days when weather conditions aren't conducive for blade maintenance, our technicians can seamlessly transition to carry out servicing and internal maintenance on the turbines. This innovative operational pivot ensures that our teams remain productive and engaged, reducing standby time and maximizing production time of the wind energy infrastructure.

By integrating additional tasks into our workflow during inclement weather, we not only enhance operational efficiency but also significantly reduce costs for our clients. Case Studies

Bessakerfjellet Vindpark

 Bessakerfjellet is located in the Trondelag region of Norway and consists of 25 Enercon E-70 wind turbines constructed in 2007/08. We have provided regular maintenance at this windfarm for the last 5 years and will continue to do so going forward. Considering the challenging conditions posed by the extreme climate experienced at this coastal mountaintop site , regular and often specialized maintenance is crucial to ensuring that this wind farm continues to operate at optimal performance levels.

Bockstigen

 Situated 4km off the coast of the Island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea, Bockstigen stands among the oldest operational offshore wind farms globally. Notably, it holds the distinction of being the world’s first offshore re-powering project. In 2023 we sent two teams to Gotland tasked with restoring all blades at Bockstigen, applying the Hempel ‘Hempablade’ LEP system and re-coating all monopiles. With all blades being completed in record time (on average two blades per day) both teams then focused on the re-coating of the heavily corroded monopiles. The entire structure was cleaned using high-pressure fresh water before abrasive blasting was utilised to remove corrosion and areas of existing coating. Once the surface was thoroughly prepared, the monopiles underwent coating with a paint system recommended and supplied by Hempel. Our future plans for Bockstigen include a return in 2024 to install new access ladders and fall arrest systems, marking the final phase of the site’s upgrade.

We can offer a new patented released in June 2024 Generator Stator Shield (GSS) specific designed for enercon, this new GSS protect the Stator windings against incoming rainwater and loose items, it has been proven on a site wich resulted in no generator winding damages and a Reinstatement insurance that was privious lost due to too many Generator damages.
